Anguillians, who were able to stay awake, were able to join other stargazers in the Caribbean region, and across the United States, to see a total eclipse of the moon at about 3.00 o’clock on Tuesday morning.

The full moon turned a reddish colour during the first of a series of lunar eclipses. The phenomenon, which is sometimes called “Blood Moon”, happens when the earth’s shadow falls across the moon.

There will be four complete eclipses within the next two years which have occurred only three times in the last five hundred years.
